Compact, powerful, silent and yet versatile and scalable: these are attributes that are usually not mutually compatible with 19-inch server systems. The more compact a system is built, the less computing power the device generally offers. At the same time, the air has to circulate more strongly in a compact housing, since it builds up heat much faster. Extremely compact 19-inch systems with 1U and a socketed processor are therefore usually equipped with turbofans, which ventilate large amounts of air through the housing – but also develop a lot of noise. In addition, the chassis is usually very long – the classic 1U “Pizzabox” often comes with case lengths of 60-70cm. Normally, it was just in this way that all components such as 1U power supply, HDD backplane, mainboard, etc. could be accommodated together.
Our new 19-inch “Emu S3i XL” servers therefore offer a rather unusual performance spectrum:
- the dimensions are extremely compact with 1.5U height and 28.5cm length
- the chassis is cooled by silent fans – practically non-audible during operation
- front-access for two mobile-racks for 3.5 “HDDs (alternatively 2.5” HDD / SSD)
- the CPU is socketed and can be configured up to an intel i7-7700
- integrated dual gigabit LAN and dual band WIFI
- two 2.5″ SSDs can be installed internally
The 1.5U chassis – with its higher frame compared to a 1U housing – offers enough space for all the components mentioned. At the same time, the higher chassis allows the integration of a standard sized CPU-cooler, which makes a specialized radial processor-fan dispensable – resulting in significantly lower volume-development. The Intel Core i7-7700 processor (Kaby Lake) is very energy-efficient with a TDP of 65W and develops only little heat. The smaller available processor variants (Core i3 / i5) are also very energy-efficient with TDPs of 35W / 51W / 65W. Further information about the system can be found here in our onlineshop.
